This is the last day of our stay in Boston for the occasion and we booked via the Internet a few months ago, the Boston Light Tour , or a cruise around the islands of the Bay that are part of National Park Area.
The departure is scheduled at 10.00 am at the Moakley Couthouse Dock.
arrive early, so take a ride around the block where there is, among other things, the Palace of Justice.
Here is a nice walk runs along the Fan Pier and offers a pleasant pastime and a beautiful view of the harbor Boston and the Central Wharf.
The cruise is organized directly by the park rangers (probably voluntary, given their advanced age) that are waiting in front of the dock. Like all Bostonians met so far are very friendly, there are questions about our stay and extolled the beauty of Italy.
The Boston Light Tour involves cruising around some of the Harbour Island , describing the features of the same, the port at Little Brewster Island to visit the lighthouse is the oldest station in the United States and the last to maintain a guardian of the Coast Guard.
For those who request it in advance (like us) is also provided for the climb to the lighthouse (76 steps and two ladders) to admire the view and, above all, the historic Fresnel lens.
Harbour Islands |
The lighthouse is low, but also close to the top and that is why you can go up only 8 people at a time. The rangers, however, are well organized, and before leaving give us a colored bracelet to keep the wrist. Ours is red and means that will go up in the first group.
groups are five in all, and luckily the participants are not so many as to the Whale Watch .
Everything is done so that everyone can enjoy a nice trip.
Once on board, while the ferry leaves Boston one of the four rangers speaks of the city, its evolution and then begins to explain the park and the islands that compose it.
Unfortunately, the noise engine, wind and the microphone does not work very well make it difficult to understand much of explanations.
arrive in Little Brewster Island half an hour later.
Here we expect the lighthouse keeper, a woman, strictly according to the tradition of this station, dressed in period costume.
We are housed in the warehouse of the boats and we are given historical information on the island and provides guidance on the climb to the lighthouse. The island is small and delicious. On them, besides the lighthouse, there are a couple of white houses used for storage and, of course, Home of the guardian who can not be visited.
The climb to the lighthouse is not difficult, but we must bear in mind that you must pass two ladders and then you need to have appropriate footwear. In the lantern room is unbearably hot, but the view is beautiful .... we were lucky to have a sunny day!
we focus on a few minutes before breaking up and then go down to make way for another group.
While participants take turns in doing up a tour of the island and we rest a little shade.
At 12:30, the guardian takes us to the jetty and greets us with a Alohaaaa carols!
Lighthouse |
happy to return back to this wonderful trip.
Although at the time of booking we would rather do Three-Lighthouse Tour (but not available this season) that allowed them to see three of the most famous lighthouses of the bay, we are very satisfied. The organization was perfect. On the island we were supported by the presence of four rangers, two coast guards and the warden, to supply any type of information and lead to the discovery of the territory. Absolutely recommend!
Back on earth we decided to have lunch at the Barking Crab which is right in front of the berth.
also our second time at this restaurant does not leave us disappointed.
We leave sated and satisfied.
Since this is our last day in Boston and we have now visited all that could be nearby, we decided to spend several hours shopping.
First of all a little turn around Quincy Market to buy T-shirts with the inscription of the city, then go to 'Hard Rock Cafe to buy a shirt for Mara as we had asked.
We turn a little in the shops close and then we head Washington Street where there Macy's, H & M, Filene's , Footloocker , Borders and CitySport.
We are looking for some particular Converse, but found only the classic lines.
Eventually we drag their feet aching back to Quincy Market where we get a salad before returning to the hotel.
