Images des Mathématiques

What say about science, particularly mathematics, our French cousins?
This week we talk about the site:

Images des mathématiques
http://images.math.cnrs.fr/
The site is supported by the French National Center of Scientific Research ( http://www.cnrs.fr/ ) and is the "modern" version of the print magazine of the same name.
Disclosure to 360 degrees, or to use the French "vulgarisation" to present mathematical research and the work of mathematician. All articles are written by experts in the field, but are not aimed at people who are warmly invited to participate with comments and impressions.

many different categories present.

specialists tell us what research in mathematics: as a cube can become "round"? The computers are reliable in calculations? How can poetry do with mathematics?

We we are used to be surrounded by objects that we can touch, change, but we also have the chance to imagine objects in different shapes. So what happens if we take a witch, three umbrellas and a fish? And if you get stuck three rings, we made a game of magic?
mathematics was "made" by the size of Galois, Archimedes, Gauss, but also as protagonists not in the flesh as the root of two ....

Impressions (personal) of various mathematicians.

not true that mathematics is cool .... just peeking between these images of mathematical objects ...

... or if you're into comics, Cat Phlipppe Geluck will amaze you with his arguments.

Even sociologists, philosophers and historians have dealt (and deal) of Mathematics. Here you will find reflections on epistemology, the history and influences on society of this scientific field.

Paul Erdos (yes, I know it is not written correctly but sooner or later Mysteri the creation of a post I will reveal ...) said: "A (a) mathematician (a) is a machine that turns coffee into a theorem" . Well even mathematicians in coffee breaks and chatting amicably around a bit '!

Here is the electronic version of the numbers of printed journals, published between 2004 and 2006. Level slightly higher than the rest of the site, even for experts.

But I will understand what is written?? It will not be too difficult for me?
The reader is guided their choice of reading a color that indicates the level of difficulty:
  • Ski deals (green route): you do not like the formula? The theorems are your nightmare? In this section we talk about Mathematics but ..... there are no formulas and theorems !!!!!
  • Piste Bleue (blue route) may be necessary to revisit some equation and a bit 'of geometry, but maybe you just need a bit' of curiosity ...
  • Ski rouge (red path): Well now there is no escape! Here serves exactly the math!
  • Piste noire (black route): no light? It 's a bit like skiing, you know that black is the hardest. But Throw it anyway because we are not yet in the midst of scientific research and then we come to the valley even with skis on their feet!
