of this English author, who has worked for many years in Holland at ESA (European Space Agency) I hear him speak.
course, if you will be taken into account by the publishers homegrown.
For the time being the only (to my knowledge) to be able to acquire the publishing rights and Mondadori. For more than a branch library, but is distributed at newsstands (Hats off to the editors of Uranus).
In general, those who work for years in the field of physics or technology, is able to have a realistic view of life, of who we are and where we go ... In short, something like that. A vision
certainly pragmatic, but it manages to avoid flights of fancy too. If then an astronomer or a physicist in quantum mechanics has the gift of imagination, coupled with the talent for storytelling and who can exploit the basic ideas of the subjects studied, the novel without adding unnecessary technicalities ... be ', we got a copyright over the top.
Obviously, this is not a rule.
fact I was able to recall one of my old and dusty Edwin Charles Tubb trilogy, an incredible author who has written books and worked on scripts for a lifetime ... and is not a way of saying, today, ninety years, continues to write vividly.
It is not a scientist.
But he will speak on another occasion.
Read Alastair Reynolds was a pleasant surprise.
But I must admit that the first part of the novel "revelation" found it hard to carburetor. To me, that does not displease the topics are the archaeological background, it disturbs me a bit 'technique that I call swing soap-opera, that jump from one situation to another seemingly unrelated. A technique that takes you with some delay to have an overview. In fact, the book has quietly stationed for a while 'on the table, according to my moments of inspiration to the reading.
Then the story took consistency and vitality, attracting increasing interest and that ... It was the beginning of the end. At that point it became a voracious predator, and reading continues until the sense I'm not suggesting it's time to close the book for a moment of sleep.
The narrative of "Revelation" may prove even simple once understood, is very well supported by the style of Reynolds, which can describe very well the spaces, such as the immense, and at the same time claustrophobic spaces of the ship "Nostalgia of the Infinite," which refers to the mind the scale of "Nostromo" by Ridley Scott. So we have the main character, this future archaeologist obsessed (in reality a state led, in an unconscious way) from an alien civilization disappeared a million years and whose humanity remained, only the oldest pieces (as they are for us the pyramids) are represented by finely carved stone artefacts. Haunted and abandoned on the planet with a small colony of scientists after that, following a sort of mutiny, the crew (and the same main character's wife) takes hold of the ship leaving the planet's orbit to an unknown destination.
Obviously, I will not spoil the rest of the readings with too many details.
This first novel (published in two parts by Urania) does not end here, not at all part of a broader space opera, but if this is the premise, enjoyable.
"Revelation" I liked the point that I'm tempted to buy the next book (and already published abroad), in English. I could try, just in case I find that I like ... a bit like going to movies on DVD, I learned to appreciate them in the original language using subtitles.
