1978? The age you see all, and I remember reading it in the past, a lot 'of years ago. But I do not think of purchasing it as a new ... 1978, seems too far in time. Yes, definitely a second-hand book.
leafed through it and the memories resurface here and there, the adventures of Dumarest! I remember the girl from Kalin fiery red hair and skin color pearl. Suddenly it occurs to me that years ago I painted a female figure with red hair ... but no, there is no relationship, just a coincidence.
I decide to put it in the list of things to read.

Edwin Charles Tubb Tubb better known as the EC has a writing style simple, sometimes maybe a bit 'naive but never superficial enough to decide to pass up. The positive aspect of his narrative and he explores the infinity of worlds touched by the protagonist, and the personality of the characters gradually met. Does not dwell much on technology can always partridge enough away not to fall into the trap of technological ingenuity (I know 'about the ticking of a teletype aboard an interstellar ship, would smile, but also lose part of the charm of the novel) But ECTubb was far-sighted.
Volume Uranium that collects three novels in the saga of Earl Dumarest, reads smoothly giving a pleasant moment of relaxation, with environments that do not suffer from the time they were written. The trilogy contains:
scales for Logis (Kalin - written in 1969)
* Planet of the Outlaw (The Jester at Scar - 1970)
* Tomorrow the Earth (Lalla - 1971 )
These three novels are part of a larger work that sees the protagonist Earl Dumarest go in search of his home planet (Earth) forgotten by the time that humanity has colonized for centuries deep into the densest planet in the galactic center, where the distances between the stars (ie Suns, with their planets) are smaller.
The work is composed of as many as 32 novels.
As I said, reading it soon became easy and pleasant for the pure adventure. The man-woman interactions are very platonic (but all in all not that much) and above there is a personal vision of the author in describing his women, who appear as you enter in his adventures. EC Tubb was born in 1919 (and is still alive) and probably at the time wrote, had with him this pleasant romantic vision of womanhood pure and simple, in the spirit and attitudes. Although I have only read this trilogy, I believe that the longevity of this saga was the capacity to Tubb to describe the hardness of life, rather than pioneering aspects of the expansion in the human inner worlds, and different types of developed societies always very hard and sometimes based on social stratification of the past. Note that the whole saga spans three decades in practice, the first novel appeared in 1967 and the last in 1997. I have no idea how he could change his style over the years until today, but the recitals that EC Tubb worked on several screenplays science fiction (including Space 1999) I have only been able to evolve for the better.
Eventually, in a matter of days, I reread the book and I must admit, with some satisfaction.
This of course prompted me to look for other books but with some regret that I discovered this fertile author is relatively unknown in Italy. In addition to this work of uranium (and perhaps some other of his works) now we have only a small publishing house is reprinting the entire saga. These four novels for volumes that time. I must admit that the cost is not what might be called reasonable, far from it. But it is also true that if thought we had them, we would canvas pants (I think Edwin Charles Tubb there is not even on the Italian version of Wikipedia).
